Today we began our dance classes as part of the Dance Strand in the PE curriculum. We are learning fundamental movement skills and practicing some exciting dance steps that will come together in a full routine over the next few weeks. Everyone is having great fun while also keeping fit through all the energetic movement. Stay tuned for more as our routine takes shape!
Today we started our Music Generation lessons with our coach Hayden. We are learning all about different genres of music including hip-hop, pop, rock and jazz amongst others. We are also learning about rhythm and how to keep rhythm in a piece of music. We have started using boomwhackers to help us to make a melody and keep the rhythm in the melody at the same time. We are really enjoying these music lessons!
Over the past few weeks, 4th Class have been busy exploring all sorts of exciting science activities. We’ve been learning about forces by making our own paper helicopters and investigating how weight, thrust, drag, and lift affect how they move. We even experimented to find out how to make our helicopters fall more slowly!
Recently, we visited St. Tiernan’s Secondary School, where we took part in a fascinating heat experiment. We discovered that heat can make a rubber ball bounce higher — a fun and surprising result! We used binmen burners, thermometers and wore lab coats & goggles!
We’ve really enjoyed all our science experiments so far and can’t wait to continue exploring and discovering more in the weeks ahead.
As part of Maths Week 2025, we spent time with the younger classes, helping them play fun maths games designed to build their number sense and confidence. Today, we visited the Junior Infant class, where we played sorting and matching games. It was great to see how enthusiastic and engaged the younger children were. We really enjoyed supporting their learning and helping them develop their early maths skills through play
Today, Fourth Class took part in our sponsored walk to Rathfarnham Castle and Playground to help raise funds for the school. Thankfully, the weather stayed dry, and we had a fantastic time playing in the playground and enjoying the fresh air. We’re delighted to have contributed to this important fundraiser, and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who generously donated to support our school!
On our second trip to St. Tiernan’s Secondary School for our science experiment, we explored the fascinating effects of heat on different metals. Using elements such as copper, sodium, strontium, and magnesium, we observed the beautiful colours produced when these metals were burned under a Bunsen burner.
We also experimented with mixing different metals to see how their combinations affected the colours and effects. The results were stunning — especially when magnesium burned with a bright, dazzling light that looked like something straight out of a Harry Potter film!
We had a fantastic time conducting this experiment and really enjoyed discovering the science behind these colourful reactions during our Science Blast experience.
A Happy & Spooky Hallowe'en to one and all!
