Good Shepherd Girls vs Taney

Led by joint captains Emily and Daniela the girls team were so excited for their first match of the season on November 15th. Knowing Taney were capable of fielding a very strong team we were looking at this as a warm up match. It was a chance to try out different formations and positions giving players a chance to play where they may have never played before.

Gemma started out in goal and her GAA background was very visible in her strong kick outs. She was assisted in her protection of the goal by our super line of defence with Emily, Helen and Daniela who were helped out by Robyn, Gabriella, Andrea and Megan inat various stages. Lucy took charge of the nets for the second half with some really important saves.

Huge improvement was evident in the middle of the pitch – the bravery of Lara in her tackling and marking earning her the Dame of the Game title! But the same courage was also displayed by Eibhlín, Mackenzie and Sarah, repeatedly winning the ball.

Gabriela and Anastasia showed great persistence up first but unfortunately despite help from Laura, Megan and Gemma we didn’t make it to the score card on this occasion. However, the performance was a hugely positive one, as was the attitude on the pitch with everyone working as a team and encouraging each other all the way with no negativity towards team mates. A great turnout from supporters applauded us off the pitch. Well done girls we are so proud of you!
