Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week this year took place the last week of January and was celebrated throughout the week in our school in various ways with our amazing students. The theme this year was Walking Together in Faith and Love. To begin, every class received a Catholic Schools Work pack for their class range. These divided the week into days and had a theme for each day.

The Monday theme was Walking Together in Faith. Mrs Jackson explained via the intercom how our life can be compared to a journey of faith and gave examples of times when love and generosity are evident, in our school. On Tuesday the theme was Walking Together in Love. Katelin, Saoirse, Brandan and Sara from Third class, read a poem entitled “Grandparents are a blessing.” This was followed by Patrick. Hanna and Freya reading a poem entitled “Grandparent’s Day Poem”. On Wednesday the theme was Walking Together to Celebrate. Mia, Tori, Paul, Alva and Cali from second class sang a song entitled “Circle of Friends” followed by Martin, Lelah, Aisling and Chloe who sang “The Gathering Song”. They were so good you could hear a pin fall. On Thursday the theme was Walking Together in Love. Ms Sands and children from fourth class collected some beautiful pieces of Artwork created in the school especially for Catholic Schools Week to display in the hall. On Friday the theme was Walking Together in Love.

Children from 2nd to 6th gathered together in the hall for a very special prayer service which ended with a rousing applause from everybody to help us end our week of prayer and reflection. Father Cody from Rathfarnham came to see us after the mass to share in our celebration. He was delighted and watched key moments from our celebration on the Interactive Whiteboard. Here is one such key moment: Pope Francis has asked everyone in the world, who belongs to the Church, to go on a journey of listening and of hope in the future.

During the service, while second class sang their beautiful rendition of “Circle of Friends” again. Alex Caitlin, Keegan, Noé, Blaise and Fionn brought up beautiful symbols about school to display. Our art work decorated the halls. Following our song and readings, Helen, Casey, Emily, Mira and Kamryn led us in the Prayers of the Faithful. Our second class concluded with a lovely song “The Gathering” followed by a final “Irish Blessing” video from 300 churches joined together to bless the Irish church.

It was a lovely experience and the children and adults present were very much blessed by it. Thanks to everyone who took part to make it a wonderful Catholic Schools week.
